USRT's Saturday in Toronto: Almost There.
With Friday's activities behind them the US RaceTronics (USRT) team was looking forward to having an even better Saturday at Toronto. As team drivers Carl Skerlong (#24 King Taco/USRT) and David Garza (#4 Axtel/Tecate/Madisa/USRT) climbed into their respective cars hopes were high that they would finish the sessions somewhere in the top-10 spots.
The morning practice session saw Skerlong finish the session in the sixteenth spot with a fast time of 1:06.896 while Garza had a much more eventful session. Garza would end up shooting up to the fifth best spot on the timesheets however, a spin between Turns #1 and # 2 and the damage that ensued brought out the session's only Red Flag and cost Garza his best time. Garza's second best time was 1:06.652 which carried him to fifteenth best time which is where he would finish up the session.
With the morning session behind them the qualifying session saw less Red Flags, which occurred three minutes into the session. Both cars entered the charts and stayed for most of the first part between the eighth and thirteenth positions. Both Skerlong and Garza pitted on their eleventh laps. Upon their exit Skerlong and Garza continued to improve on their times, and stayed in the top twelve spots. Twenty nine minutes into the session Garza pits again and quickly returns to the track and immediately posts the eleventh best time. Skerlong followed his teammate on the timesheets when he posted the twelfth best time. As the track continued to heat up and more drivers began to capitalize on the track conditions, times quickly fell and both USRT drivers saw their times fall by one position. Garza's time would end up being twelfth best, while Skerlong's time sat him in the thirteenth spot.
