US RaceTronics Portland Pre-Race Report

After a six week break the US RaceTronics team is ready to get back into the swing of things and Portland is the first stop

On the heels of a long six week break from Champ Car Atlantic competition the US RaceTronics (USRT) squad has been busy with off-season testing.  Both USRT drivers David Garza (#4 Axtel/Tecate/Madisa/USRT)  and  Carl Skerlong (#24 King Taco/USRT) have also competed in SCCA sanctioned races throughout the Pacific Northwest in preparation for this weekend's Portland Grand Prix.  After a successful result at the Houston Grand Prix in which Skerlong scored a season best finish of second and Garza scored a fourteenth, the team looks to continue it's improvements

While the Sierra Sierra duo of Raphael Matos (#6 ProWorks) and James Hinchcliffe (#9 NOCO/ProWorks) do their best to dominate the series there is a very competitive field that will also be gunning for a win.   Add USRT to the mix as well.  With the positive momentum from last month's Houston Grand Prix behind them the USRT team is seeking their first win.

The start of the 2007 Champ Car Atlantic season was shaky one for the team, but since then both Garza and Skerlong have taken enormous strides in their Champ Car Atlantic education and have consistently improved their performances.  The Houston Grand Prix showed that the team is capable of competing at a top tier with winning a race a reasonable goal.

David Garza - "I am really looking forward to Portland and competing once again.  With every race we are improving our performance and I am  confident that this weekend we will continue to see that continue.  The testing and races that we've undertaken after Houston have hopefully provided us with what we need to apply to a successful Portland race"

Carl Skerlong - "I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. Houston seems like a long time ago but I'm keen to ensure we keep our momentum going having had such a competitive outing there. I love the Portland International Raceway, I regard it as my home track and it felt pretty good to take another couple of wins there last weekend ahead of the Atlantic double-header. It's good to get back onto a permanent road course after the first three street races. I don't have to worry about learning the track this time round and hopefully we'll be on it straight out of the box!"

Shane Seneviratne -"It's good to get back into the swing of things again.  Houston was a successful event and I'm hoping that Portland will be just as successful if not more.  The team and drivers continue to improve and the races that we entered after Houston have given us more resources to use for Portland and beyond.
