US RaceTronics Friday Long Beach Report

With the bad memories from the Vegas Grand Prix behind them the US RaceTronics (USRT) was ready for Long Beach and for showing the success that the team knows is capable of producing.

Round 2 of the 2007 Cooper Tires Presents The Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda is in USRT's backyard and home to many of its sponsors, including King Taco.  So a good result this weekend is paramount.

Friday morning practice started with sunny skies and breezy conditions. The team would go on to have a successful Practice session where USRT driver Carl Skerlong # 24 King Taco/US RaceTronics Swift Mazda-Cosworth would end the session in the ninth spot while driver David Garza #4 Axtel/Tecate/Madisa/US RaceTronics Swift Mazda-Cosworth would finish twelfth on the time sheets.  The team would go back to the Garage area and make some minor tweaks to the car before the afternoon Qualifying session.

Qualifying was a much tougher affair as Garza experienced some gearbox issues which would eventually force him out of the session only after 10 laps.  Garza would end the session in the twenty-eighth spot.  Skerlong on the other hand would end the session in the thirteenth.

The day while difficult would once again test the perseverance of the team and with Friday behind the team would come back on Saturday to fight another day.

David Garza - " "We had a very short session because of gearbox problems.  I came into the pits and didn't want to risk crashing.  I'm looking forward to tomorrow.  We have a good car now, good team and a good teammate"

Carl Skerlong - "It is a very tough venue but we got up to speed pretty quick and things started to go our way and in the end we found  some speed that doesn't show in our times put will help us."
